How every story is held

Sourcing

1. Every story carries a sources box listing the documents, filings, posts, recordings and people its claims rest on. A story with an empty sources box does not publish.
2. A single anonymous source is not enough for a factual claim about a named person. Two independent sources, or one source plus a document, is the floor.
3. Documents are quoted, linked or described precisely enough that a reader can find them. A docket number is printed when one exists.
4. Screenshots are treated as claims, not proof, until the original post or message is confirmed.

Fairness

1. Anyone a story makes a claim about is asked for comment before it runs, with enough time to answer. Their reply, or the fact that they did not reply, is in the story.
2. Allegations are attributed to whoever made them and are never stated as fact. A complaint alleges; a court finds.
3. Private people are named only when the story cannot be told without the name and the public interest is clear. Minors are not named.
4. Health, sexuality, immigration status and criminal history are reported only when they are the story, never as colour.

Corrections

1. A factual error is corrected on the page, in a dated note above the story, as soon as it is confirmed. The original wording is not silently replaced.
2. A story whose central claim fails is retracted: the page stays up with a note saying what was wrong and why, and the story is removed from the front page and the feeds.
3. Every correction and retraction is listed on the corrections page.
4. Requests for correction go to the tip line or the editor's address and are answered.

Independence and money

1. NVR.news is published by SNVRKOTICS LLC, which also sells SNVRKOTICS and NVR.to to the industry this title covers. A story about a SNVRKOTICS customer, partner or competitor says so in the text.
2. The publisher's products do not direct coverage, and coverage is not withheld to protect them.
3. The title is funded by advertising. Advertising is labelled as such, is never written by the editorial desk, and never influences what runs or does not run.
4. No payment is made for stories, documents or interviews. No payment is accepted for coverage.

Tips and sources

1. The tip line stores no network address and asks for no contact details unless the sender offers them.
2. A source who asks to remain anonymous remains anonymous. The editor knows who they are; nobody else needs to.
3. Material sent in confidence is not published in a form that identifies the sender without their agreement.
